Prayer and Liturgy
School Prayer
Our School Prayer was created by the staff, parents and children of Saint Cuthbert Mayne.

Each year, we revisit the school prayer and discuss what it means to us and how we can live it out. It is always the start of our religious teaching in September.
Class Prayer
After looking at our school prayer, we see how we can adapt it to reflect how we behave and interact with our class. We often work in groups where we share and listen to other people's ideas before we decide on the final prayer. This year 6MLK decided to use the Our Father as their starting point for their class prayer. Here are some examples of the prayers that we composed for 2025–26.

Welcome Mass 2025
On Thursday 18th September Father David led us in a reverent welcome Mass to start the school year. Father encouraged us, just as the disciples imitated and followed Jesus, that we too should imitate Jesus. He also reminded us that, in addition to
Jesus, God has given us leaders and role models to follow such as Pope Leo XIV and our Cardinal Vincent Nichols. Father David finished by sharing about one of our newest saints Carlos Acutis and how we could also imitate him.
After mass, the Year 6s introduced their Year 3 buddies to the school.
One parent commented, “It was a pleasure to attend the school mass and witness how all the new children were given a very warm welcome.”
The Year 3 children said they felt “special,” “good,” and “liked people waving at them!”

Andrew Masters Assembly

Andrew joined us on Monday 22nd September for our assembly. He shared with the children the story about Jonah and the whale (Old Testament). |
| Andrew chose children to participate in the story telling to help reinforce the message. | |

The focus was on the importance of saying sorry and asking for forgiveness.
“It also made us think about what we do and that we should take responsibility for our actions” (Rosanna and Alex).
Lord, When we do wrong help us to say sorry. And when others say sorry to us for doing wrong, help us to forgive. Thank you that we can make things better again. Amen. |

Harvest Liturgy 2025
On Wednesday 22nd October, 5 Einstein led a Harvest Liturgy. We were encouraged to think how we could make a difference. Just like a seed, our actions, even if we do just one little thing, can also grow into something big especially if we work together with others.
2 Corinthians 9:6-10
The point is this: the one who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and the one who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each of you must give as you have made up your mind, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God can provide you with every blessing in abundance, so that by always having enough of everything, you may share abundantly in every good work. As it is written, “He scatters abroad, he gives to the poor; his righteousness endures forever.”
Our mission is to consider how we are going to plant a seed and make it grow.
Will we walk past litter or pick it up? Will we recycle or just throw it in the bin? Will we turn the lights and taps off when we don’t need them?
How will you take care of God’s gift: creation?
The Rosary in the month of October 2025

We started October with a rosary day led by Callum and a team of students from JFK. Each class had the opportunity to make a decade of the rosary beads in a workshop in the hall. The children have used these beads each time they participated in the Mark 10 Mission Rosary Challenge. We aimed to say a decade of the rosary each day at school and think about the Bible reading that accompanied it. 6 MLK also represented our school online, in our ASCAT family, as we came together as one in prayer. At home, we have also been encouraged to say the rosary with our family and reflect on the life of Jesus and the love He has for all of us.
All Saints' Day 2025

As a school we celebrated All Saints’ Day, a special feast when we remember all the saints - holy men and women who followed Jesus and showed His love to the world.
6MLK led the celebration on Tuesday 4th November 2025 and were supported by our orchestra. We listened to the Word of God, and they explained to us that the saints remind us that we can all be holy. We can all be saints by loving God and others every day.
They allowed us time to reflect and think about how we could live as one of God’s saints.
Would we stand up for someone? Would we share what we have?
Would we be kind to everyone? Would we forgive others?
Our mission this week is to be a light for others -
through a kind word, a helping hand, or a smile.
Loving God,
Thank you for the saints who show us how to follow Jesus.
Help us to shine Your light in everything we do, so that one day we may
share Your joy in heaven.
We make this our prayer through Christ our Lord.
Amen
Tuesday 11th November 2025 - Amnesty Day
John 14:27
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives.
Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”
Today we gathered to remember all those who have died in war, especially those who gave their lives so that we might live in peace.
We prayed for peace in our world, in our hearts and in our school.
As a mark of respect, we laid our own poppies in the minute of silence and thought about their sacrifice and how grateful we are to them.
Jesse Tree Day
On Wednesday 26th November, our students engaged in a Jesse Tree Day workshop led by Callum and the JFK team. This experience allowed pupils to explore the spiritual significance of the Jesse Tree, representing the lineage of Jesus. By creating class Jesse trees and ornaments, students expressed their artistic talents while deepening their understanding of the Advent season.
The involvement of former students as leaders reinforced community and continuity within our school. Their presence exemplifies our commitment to building lifelong relationships. As students crafted their ornaments, they engaged in meaningful discussions about their symbolism, enhancing their spiritual engagement for Advent.
We encourage parents to discuss the significance of the Jesse Tree at home, exploring the meanings behind the ornaments created by each class. We look forward to incorporating these creations into future prayer sessions, reinforcing the role of prayer in our school community.
Advent - Baubles of Hope for Our School Christmas Tree

As we journey through Advent and reflect on this special Year of Hope, each class has been invited to take part in a meaningful whole-school activity. Every child has received a Christmas bauble to decorate and to write a personal message of hope on the back. These baubles are being hung on the Christmas tree in the top corridor, creating a beautiful display of our community’s wishes, dreams, and hopeful reflections for the year ahead.
We look forward to seeing our tree grow brighter each day with the children’s creativity and inspiring messages - reminding us of the true spirit of Christmas and the importance of hope in our lives.
