Pupil Voice

Subject leaders regularly carry out pupil voice as part of their monitoring. Governors carried out a pupil voice during their Open Morning, as did Ofsted when they visited. Ofsted fed back that the children were very enthusiastic about the school, both in their learning and with pride about the school. The children were good at linking learning together such as mental health, bucket filling, Houses and expressing how they felt.

Democracy is embedded within the school. Pupils have the opportunity to have their voices heard through our School Council. The elections of House Captains, the School Council and various other roles in school are based solely on pupil votes.

School Council

The school council is made up of 16 children, 4 from each year group. Year 3 – Year 6. New representatives from each class have been elected to the School Council, being led this year by Mrs Poyner.

The variety and energy of the children in our school council help create an atmosphere that is buzzing with new ideas.  The Council meet every other week and discuss any ongoing projects or any new ideas, for example; a questionnaire on changes to lunches. The results and suggestions were discussed with the cook and changes were made. The School Council are currently leading an initiative to improve activities during wet play.

The school council are keen fundraisers and are continuously raising money for a variety of charities. Some of the charities we have raised money for in recent years include: Keech Cottage Hospice, St Francis Hospice, CLIC Sargent and many more.

Sports Council

The Sports Council, under the direction of Mr Collingwood, is comprised of 10 children, one from each class and two Year 6 Sports Ambassadors.

The role of the Ambassadors is to work with PE staff and the Sports Councillors, to raise the profile of PE and to assist with some leadership. The Council maintains and updates the sports noticeboard.

Chaplaincy Team

The Chaplaincy Team is an important part of our school community.  Pupil Chaplains support the Catholic life of the school in a wide variety of ways, including:

• Planning and leading acts of worship;
• Writing prayers;
• Initiating and organising fund raising events;
• Leading tours of our school for prospective parents;
• Representing the school on visits.

Other ways in which our pupils inspire us

• Year 6 buddies – all Year 3s are paired with a Year 6 pupil to support them, particularly in their first term here.
• They love competitions and love getting active: Dressing up for world book day; battle re-enactments; science club, Greek Days and bikeability are just a few of the different activities that take place.
• They also take part in the Young Mathematician of the Year Award.
• The children have planted trees with the Woodland Trust at Heartwood Forest.
• We run in-school competitions such as the Who Inspires Me speech competition.
• All children learn French both in lessons and some incidental French. Teachers greet children in French, children often say our Grace before Meals in French and registers might be done in French.
• Year 4 and Year 5 have one hour lessons each week by our dedicated French teacher Mrs Crompton.
• Years 3 and 4 have a Christmas Production each year while Year 5 and 6 provide us with a musical.
